Introduction

My personal bass learning journey took me from the prestigious Franz Liszt Music Academy in Hungary to the California Institute of Arts in Los Angeles. Now as the Principal Lecturer in Jazz Bass at Leeds Conservatoire, and a private tutor to many aspiring bassists worldwide, I know how important it is to understand that there are no shortcuts in music. This said, with steady growth and clear goals, the continued joy and satisfaction we can experience whilst endeavouring to discover more about our instrument is a truly fulfilling and unparalleled experience.

Our Experience

Studying music is a life long pursuit, and I’ve currently been on my own exciting journey for nearly four decades now, whilst also playing and teaching professionally for over 30 years. During this time I have worked all around the World and performed music in its many forms and styles. From classical orchestras to small jazz combos, chamber music to big bands, heavy jazz gigs in LA to shows in London’s West End, tours with popular artists and much more.

Educator

Passionate about teaching and education, Zoltan tutored at Jeff Berlin's PlayerSchool of Music and at California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles, before moving to the UK to take the post of Principal Lecturer in Jazz Bass at Leeds Conservatoire in 2001.
As an educator, Zoltan has helped develop the skills of numerous career professionals including Chris Hargreaves (Benny Greb, Submotion Orchestra), Geoff Chalmers (Discover Double Bass), Sam Vicary (The Cinematic Orchestra), Dan Ezard (Gabrielle) plus many more.

Zoltan is passionate to teach people with an interest in music and bass who wish to progress and keep learning.

Performer

Before moving to the UK, Zoltan spent a number of years living in Los Angeles where he regularly performed with the guitarist Rick Zunigar (Stevie Wonder), Alan Broadbent (Charlie Haden Quartet), Brandon Fields (Dave Weckl Band) amongst many others.

Since arriving in the UK in the late 90s, as well playing with many of the country’s top jazz musicians, Zoltan has also performed with the BBC Big Band, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The London Sinfonietta, Elaine Paige, plus numerous West End shows including Legally Blonde, Shrek, The Lion King, Wicked, The Book of Mormon, Hamilton and Only Fools and Horses.

As well as being passionate about teaching others, Zoltan has himself studied with many of the most renowned jazz and classical bassists of the 20th century including:
